If macaroni and cheese is one of your go-to meatless meals during Lent (or anytime you need a little comfort food action or a quick side for the fam), the FDA announced Friday afternoon that a Whole Foods product has spurred case review.

The product, 365 Whole Foods Market Small Bites Macaroni & Cheese, is sold under the Amazon-owned supermarket chain’s 365 Whole Foods Market label but manufactured by Texas-based C.H. Guenther & Son LLC, which is named as the recalling firm.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) reports some packages of this freezer section item “may contain undeclared eggs and meat ingredients,” adding: “People who have allergies to eggs run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product.”

Identifying details of the recalled macaroni and cheese bites are:

  • 8.5-ounce cartons
  • UPC Code: 99482499709
  • Best-By Date (“BB”): 11/29/25
  • Purchase Dates: 2/6/2025 – 3/11/2025

The FDA notes that no adverse reactions have been reported to date, but that the recall “was initiated after receiving a consumer complaint that the product contained meat and was not a macaroni and cheese bite.” The report states the issue has been corrected and that no other lot numbers or manufacturing dates are affected, and the maker “has implemented preventative measures to prevent any future occurrences.” It’s unclear how meat or undeclared egg made it into the product’s packaging.

The FDA announcement recommends customers should destroy any existing product and bring a receipt as proof of purchase to a Whole Foods location for a refund.

Eggs are known to be one of the major food allergens. This is the second recall of macaroni and cheese bites in just over a month, following Feel Good Foods’ recall of their gluten-free product for the reported presence of metal fragments.
