It’s out with the cold and in with the spring…ish? Listen: whether you’re preparing for grill season or still cozying up with comfort foods, today one well known supermarket announced a recall on beef that follows a pattern we’ve seen lately.

The corporate newsroom page for Publix today announced that one store location has recalled ground beef “due to the potential of foreign material in the product.” The incident reportedly only pertains to “the Ground Beef Products produced on March 26, 2025 from Publix Store 0108 at The Vineyards.” This appears to reference the Vineyards at Chateau Elan, a Georgia shopping center outside of Atlanta. “No other Publix products or store locations are affected,” the recall notice reads, which might suggest that a processing error occurred within the store, rather than on the part of a supplier.

The following four products with “sell by” dates of March 28 are impacted, the company says:

  • Ground Chuck
  • Ground Sirloin
  • Ground Lean
  • Ground Round

“Products sold on or after March 27, 2025 are not impacted with this single store recall,” they note, with corporate communication director Maris Brous adding: “As part of our commitment to food safety, potentially impacted product has been removed from the store shelves.”

The company says product should be disposed of or returned for a refund.

Until recently, for more than a decade, undeclared allergens were the longstanding number-one reason foods were routinely recalled. However, a consistent trend shows that foreign matter from the production process or otherwise is quickly coming to be a closely rivaling reason.

We’ve said before: Cook consciously, chew slowly. Both are better for your belly.
