If you've tried to streamline getting dressed with this purchase in the past year, the government, along with Walmart, just issued a scalding warning.

Walmart and Amazon Just Recalled a Small Appliance That Experts Have Labeled as “Hazardous”

Who really irons anymore? Actually, plenty of Americans still do, although some reports from recent years do speak to a decline in the old-school, meditative method of using an iron to smooth out apparel. Steamers, meanwhile, tend to be a good solution among the set without household space for an ironing board—but if you’ve purchased a compact portable steamer in the past year, today experts issued an extraordinarily vocal safety concern.
On Monday afternoon, Walmart’s website published a notice stating that the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) had announced a consumer warning to halt use of the Uomeod Mini Steamer immediately, citing “a risk of burn injury from hot water.” The mini steamers are typically used to press or remove wrinkles from clothing, drapery, or upholstery. CPSC states that 49 total reports complained the mini steamers have either ejected, spilled, or leaked hot water. These reports have resulted in nine burn injuries, including a second-degree burn incident in November 2023 that resulted from “hot water splashing onto a consumer’s thigh.”
An evaluation done by CPSC found that hot water could “eject” from the nozzle if the product was overfilled. CPSC says the product instructions and warnings “do not inform users how to avoid hot water ejections and do not adequately inform consumers of the burn hazard.”
The safety notice says Dongguan Esino Manufacturing Service Co. Ltd., of China, manufactured the mini steamers, which were sold online at Amazon.com by Uomeod-LZ001 of China. CPSC does not mention Walmart as a recalling retailer, but the Walmart recalls page says the appliances were sold on Walmart.com.
The product details, according to the CPSC notice, include:
- Uomeod Mini Steamers
- Color options: Rose gold (pink), white, or black
- “Uomeod” is printed on the product’s side beneath the water reservoir window
- The words “Uomeod,” “Mini Steamer,” and “Model: ZL-001” are printed on a label found on the bottom of the products
- Sold on Amazon between December 2019 through July 2024, prices ranged from $14 to $31
Similar information was not included for product purchases made on Walmart.com. A brief online search seems to suggest that the recalled products are no longer available for sale on either Amazon or Walmart’s websites.
Consumers are advised to stop using the product. It’s also suggested the mini steamer’s cords should be cut, and that the entire product should be disposed. The CPSC report also contains instructions to not give away or sell the affected mini steamers.
CPSC says neither Uomeod nor Dongguan Esino Manufacturing Service have offered any remedies or return suggestions for consumers, and the product information is not listed as an official recall. It does not mention whether Amazon or Walmart are providing refunds.
Any injuries or other issues with the Uomeod mini steamers can be reported to www.SaferProducts.gov, per the CPSC notice.
